Welcome to The Vitality Project.
Yes…a simple question to ask yourself in the early stages of this new year is:
Are You Shooting Yourself In The Foot?
In other words, are you basically preventing yourself from experiencing the type of improvements in your health that you are planning for?
Well…most of you want to:
- Loose Weight
- Get In Better Shape
- Look Better
- Have More Energy
- Age More Gracefully
So, why are some of you spinning your wheels to to speak and finding it hard to achieve your health goals?
The previous research has conclusively proven that most folks who are looking to loose weight, improve their bodies and hence their own levels of well-being tend to put the weight back on after the first 12 months.
I would like to share with you my own formula for long-term success at keeping yourself leaner, fitter, happier and more youthful as you age after “turning over a new leaf”
Counting Calories: I don’t recommend you do this because although this calculation can tell you how much energy you are consuming, it does not give you any indication as to HOW those calories are reacting to your own body’s metabolism. If you are over weight and have very poor insulin sensitivity, eating a diet composed of lower calories but heavy in carbohydrates will not help you much and may make your efforts much more difficult.
Weighing Yourself: Your BMI or your body weight really does not address the real concern from a metabolic standpoint implying that the degree of body fat % relative to muscle mass is what is actually important. If you wish to measure something, measure your resting heart rate, blood pressure and waist circumference as these values have a greater degree of accuracy to determine your own degree of potential disease risk.
Avoiding Exercise: When you rely upon diet alone to transform you, what you are failing to understand is that dieting will cause temporary weight loss but not a favorable change in body fat to lean muscle tissue ratio which is the vital relationship you want to achieve.
Avoiding Resistance Exercise: If you just perform cardio, you will improve your health status in many ways depending upon the type of activity selected, the volume and intensity of effort established. However; the combined approach is more effective because resistance exercise can target your lean tissue compartment and skeletal system selectively. The results of which are many-fold with regard to improving almost every health indicator inclusive of psychological well-being.
Starving Yourself: Your body is far too sophisticated to adapt to this trick for very long and when it does make the necessary metabolic changes in response, you will loose muscle and gain back much more weight after the fact.
Fad Diets and Other Nonsence: You know…I have seen just about every type of new (or not so new) diet or idea out there (including drugs) to help people get the body they really want to have and thusly transform their own level of health. Here is the truth behind all of this….it’s just another method of making money from people who are desperate and willing to try out the latest thing. There are very good reasons why these don’t work…look at the science or methodology behind them!
Going To Step Two Before Concentrating On Step One: Most people want results yesterday and want to apply whatever formula they can from where ever it has been derived (even from me) to get where they wish to go. Before you apply anything to your own unique situation…you must have completed step one in the process to change. (The Most Important Step)
Step One: Change your thinking! If you want to change your lifestyle to achieve your health goals you have to be prepared to change your life first. To do this, you must be able to change or alter your thinking to allow you to accommodate, accept and plan the necessary changes to your life that you will have to make in order to get the desired outcomes. It’s hard…but once you have this mastered…the rest is pie.
There you go…it’s all there for the most part…you just need to actually do this for yourself!
No More Foot Shooting!
