Welcome to The Vitality Project.
I have heard this phrase many times from clients, patients and various people who have made up their minds that they don’t have what it takes to reach their goals. The excuse for this is that….I don’t have the discipline to do this!
Ok, I admit it’s a hard thing to change your body, get healthier, improve your lifestyle and positively influence your health status…but look at the payoff and also consider the price you might pay if you decide to give in to this very common excuse. When you say these negative things to yourself, this establishes a way for you to justify not trying to achieve what is rightfully yours…excellent health.
It also sends your brain a negative thought which can change your thinking so that you become much more complacent and resigned to the fact that you cannot ascribe to anything greater. Do you really buy that?
Are you ok with using this rather convenient excuse so as to prevent you from attaining the greatest of health and happiness? If you want to practice humility, that is entirely a different matter. However, stating this shortcoming so emphatically so that you begin to believe it yourself is simply robbing you of the truth.
The truth of the matter is that most people, including you are much more capable than they give themselves credit. How many times have you underestimated your own abilities? How many times have you surprised yourself by the challenges you have met and the goals you have reached? Couldn’t this be one of those times?
You have a lot more discipline than you think and incidentally, discipline is a skill which must be learned through the application of your thinking, practice and trying again. When you try to succeed even if the journey is difficult, you learn about discipline along the way. Hence the important of the journey itself!
