Much as the affect that exercise training has upon human health, so it can be said for the role nutrition plays in human health, chronic disease development and the attainment of vitality.
If you really think about it from a critical standpoint, the sum of all human physiological systems are all somewhat influenced extraneously by what humans eat or drink. The degree and magnitude that your weight, blood pressure, blood sugar, blood fat, stickiness of your blood cells, relative level of cellular inflammation, enzymic and hormonal secretion are all sensitive to nutritional parameters.
There has been a great deal of population research over the last five decades that has shown a direct linkage between the relative status of human health and the nature and type of diet consumed. Research has also, more recently been interested in the effect that some micronutrients have upon specific human physiological processes to the extent that these nutrients can mediate a disease process. An excellent example of this would be the relationship between Omega-3 super unsaturated fatty acids commonly attributed to deep sea fish fat and the relative degree of cellular inflammation, the increase of which has been frequently associated with cardiovascular disease, cancer, arthritis and depression.
The wonderful thing about nutrition is the vast array of foods available which can be utilized to improve the health status of everyone. The changes in human health from modulating the nature of how and what we eat by altering the nutritional content of our diet and changing the way we approach our eating can be very profound.
